As everyone knows, candles create a relaxing ambience and mood in your home, whether you’re entertaining or relaxing with a long soak in the tub or you simply want your home, room or work space to have a naturally fresh scent.
If you’re concerned about breathing in toxic fumes when you burn candles, rest assured that with our pure soy wax candles, there are none of the dangers associated with other candles that contain paraffin wax. Soy wax candles provide a soft, natural lighting and blended with our signature scent of 100% natural essential oils you can be assured that there are no health risks associated with artificial fragrance either.
So what's so bad about paraffin wax candles? Paraffin wax is derived from petroleum which, when burnt, can lead to respiratory problems. Not only this, the dark soot that it produces gets into fabrics and can stain walls and ceilings. At Aequora, we also believe that no one needs to be putting anything petroleum based onto their skin either! This is why our range of natural and organic skincare is free from all nasties including petroleum derived ingredients. Always remember, your skin absorbs what you put onto it!
Paraffin based candles also contain many other hidden nasties to result in a better-looking candle. These unpleasant additives and chemicals are added to improve texture, glossy finish, enhance blending and prevent premature fading. Ingredients often used and ones to definitely avoid include:
Microcrystallines, Polyethylenes, Vybar, Mineral Oil, Polysorbate 80, UV Light Inhibitors.
Paraffin candles release undesired chemicals such as alkanes, alkenes and toluene, all hydro carbons and all of which are toxic to humans. Inhaling these compounds over a long period can increase the risk of developing chronic conditions such as common allergies, asthma, and even certain types of cancer.
Soy candles are made from soybeans, not only making them a safe and natural alternative to petroleum-based paraffin, but also renewable and biodegradable. By buying soy wax candles, you are ensuring that the newest addition to your home decor burns clean and won’t detract from your air quality.
Vegetable-based candles such as soy candles are vegan friendly and don’t release any of the pollutants given off by paraffin. They also don’t produce any unsightly black soot, which is not only a pain to clean but is a health hazard as well. Soy wax cleans off of just about any surface with a simple solution of warm, soapy water.
While soy candles tend to be slightly more expensive than their paraffin alternatives, you also get more for your money. Soy wax burns at a cooler temperature, meaning that your candle will burn for more hours than a paraffin candle of the same size. The wax is also less likely to scald if touched, which is an important consideration for households with small children.
Our 270g soy wax candle has an approximate burn time of 50 hours.
Soy Candles are Vegan
So many types of candles use animal products! Beeswax comes from the hives of beeves, tallow comes from the fat of animals, and some wax even comes from whales or dolphins (hideous thought!). Soy candles are 100% vegan and do not use any animal products in their production or use.
Consider The Aroma
Do you like scented candles? Candles can carry aromatherapeutic benefits, like our Rainforest Retreat Candle, but certain candles containing synthetic scents may end up making you sick. Our candles use natural essential oils to create a soothing and calming aroma. Also, soy candles tend to hold their scent better than paraffin candles because they burn slowly, releasing the essential oils gradually.
Our signature blend of pure essential oils really is reminiscent of a rainforest retreat - fresh, uplifting aromas of Lemon and Lavender combined with May Chang, Palmarosa, Frankincense and Ylang Ylang provide an abundance of aromatherapeutic properties.
Our Rainforest Retreat Candle comes in a natural light cream colour as we don’t like to add dyes. Certain dyes contain toxic compounds that may be dangerous if inhaled.
We use cotton wicks which are safe to burn and produce no pollutants. Always trim the wick to approximately 5mm to keep your candle burning evenly and we recommend you trim it after 3 hours of burn time. Keeping your wick at the correct length can also help to prevent any build-up of residue around the candle.
They’re renewable, biodegradable, and perhaps best of all, nontoxic – what’s not to love?
With Christmas around the corner, they make a beautiful gift. Our simple but stylishly elegant white glass tumblers sit well in any home and they come beautifully boxed.
